Membership Application Info
Thank you for your interest in serving the University community through membership in the President's Commission on Sexuality, Gender Diversity, and Queer Equality (PCSGDQE). Please complete the form below, attach any additional information you wish to share with us, and return to the e-mail address at the bottom of the form by February 27, 2009. It is our goal to notify you of our decision by March 31st via e-mail. All newly selected members are invited to attend the PCSGDQE meeting on April 21st at 5:15pm and to arrive early for our new member orientation meeting immediately preceding the Commission meeting.
Commitment
By submitting this application to serve on the PCSGDQE, you are agreeing to the following:
- 1. To attend all regular Commission meetings (usually held every third Tuesday of each month, 5:15-6:45 p.m.) and a spring retreat (date TBD)
- 2. To serve on at least one committee which usually requires an additional meeting each month along with some work on special projects
- 3. To participate in Commission sponsored events
Please be aware that membership on the Commission is a matter of public note. Applicants not wishing their membership to be made public may wish to reconsider their application.
Terms of Service
Commission members who represent the administration and staff at Emory University are expected to serve two-year terms on the Commission and Faculty, Student and Alumni members are expected to serve one-year terms. Any Commission member may request, at the end of her/his initial term of service, to renew her/his term for an additional term.
Member Selection
The PCSGDQE welcomes people of all experiences, skills and abilities. The effectiveness of the Commission often relies on the diversity of our membership (diversity=experience, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and representation of particular aspects of the University) and the selection committee will take the diversity of our general membership into consideration when making final decisions regarding applicants. If you are an alumni applicant, please provide place of employment information in place of department/campus information.
Non-Member Involvement
Since openings on the Commission are sometimes limited and new member applications are on the rise, the PCSGDQE invites those applicants who are not selected for membership on the Commission to become involved in the work of our committees. In addition, since we are interested in hearing from all members of our community, PCSGDQE meetings are considered open meetings and all Emory community members are welcome to attend. However, voting privileges are reserved for official Commission members only.
