Professional Development Award Info

The President's Commission on Sexuality, Gender Diversity, and Queer Equality (PCSGDQE) is excited to announce the annual Professional Development Fund award. The Professional Development Fund aims to promote the visibility and professional development of self-identifying LGBT Emory staff and junior faculty by allowing individuals to attend conferences, seminars or trainings. Through the fund, PCSGDQE will award a limited number of grants, not to exceed $300 per grant, to reimburse the costs for professional conference or training expenses.

Applications are open to self-identifying Emory LGBT staff and non-tenured (tenure track, research, adjunct, and visiting) junior faculty. The nature of the conference or training should be directly related to the recipient's field of employment and research/teaching. Applications will be judged according to the following criteria:

 1. Persons presenting an oral presentation or poster in their area of employment, research or training at a recognized domestic or international meeting

 2. Persons serving as a panelist or invited speaker, on a topic related to their area of employment or teaching/research

 3. Persons serving in a leadership position (e.g. President, Chair) at a recognized domestic or international meeting on a topic related to their area of employment or teaching/research

 4. Persons must demonstrate how attendance at the meeting/conference/training will enhance their current skill set and raise the profile of Emory

 5. Priority consideration will be given to those who have not previously received an award

After the training, seminar or conference, award recipients are required to submit a one-page summary detailing the activities conducted during their meeting attendance to PCSGDQE.

There are two distinct award periods during the year beginning September 1, 2008. Each award period has an application deadline, as well as a reimbursement deadline (see below). Applicants may apply for retrospective reimbursement for activities taking place during the first award period for events beginning on or after September 1, 2008.
